Spare tire mount

Does anyone have any pics or information on a spare tire mount under the bed? I have a '79 stepside and the PO welded in a hitch and cut off the spare mount. I would like to put one back on. where could I get this?

Nope - my spare is up in the box. Thanks for thinking of me, though...

Re: Spare tire mount

I have the mount from LMC. Nice piece worked out well. I ended up using some all thread for one of the mounting rod/bolt things. Was impossible to get the one they sent into the frame with the bed on. Edit: Sorry, my truck is a '69. Don't know how I ended up over here. LOL

Re: Spare tire mount

i just got through mounting a 88-98 crank holder in my '77. worked great. drilled a hole just above the tag to insert the crank. i love it. no more bench presses to get tire up. I'll upload some bad cell phone pics.

I'm gonna have to steal that idea...Actually I feel kinda dumb for stealing it instead of thinking of it myself...

Re: Spare tire mount

That is a great idea, although I should have thought of it as well, since that's what I did on my open car trailer.

that is quite a compliment coming from Keith. i have received a PM from another of you on this and will try to post some better pics this weekend (I doubt Keith will need instructions from the likes of me ). However, mine did work pretty slick....

Keith your truck is so sweet, i hated to say anything about your "grandpa" spare. getting it tucked underneath would really perfect it!

Here are some pics of it. I only have one of the mounting bolts. I would like to get $40 for it plus shipping and handling. My zip code is 92553 so you could figure out how much it would cost to ship. Let me know if your interested.

Re: Spare tire mount

Thanks for the pics I need to look into I will let you know. There was a piece of a bracket that was cut off the fram by the PO that is on the drivers side in back of the front spring hanger. it had 2 rivits in it. I cut the m off and removed the piece. What was this any ideas? I thought it was part of the tire mount, but the pics from libertad looks like it just mounts to the frame. what am I missing? Thanks

Chris

The one on my 90 Z71 lost the cotter pin holding the geared section to the connection tube so turning the drive tube did nothing. Talk about a job for a contortionist trying to put that back together so I could get the spare tire off.

Re: Spare tire mount

A twist to this would be to put on a fold down license plate bracket and hide the access hole for the crank handle behind the plate if it could be located that low.
