Drop shock extention

With the flip kit, and lowering shackles, the shock will bottom out before the rear end hits the frame. Bell Tech said I need there shock extension kit. Have any of you noticed this problem. If you have used the extension could you post some pics with it on the truck?

Re: Drop shock extention

can't say i've used shock extenders, but i know your shock needs to be in the most vertical position possible for it to work properly.

With a flip kit & drop shackles, you're going to need the shock extenders.

Even w/them, you might be close to the travel (compression) limits of a stock shock. I know on my old 74 (flip kit + Bell Tech shackles), I used shorter length shocks so I wouldn't have to worry about bottoming them out.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

They were front shocks off of a 73-87 GM 4wd if I remember correctly.

The lower bushing sleeve had to be pressed out to allow the original lower bolt to pass through & I had to put washers on each side of the lower bushing because it was narrower vs. the shock mount opening.

I called Bell tech today, and they now tell me the shock extender won't work on my 87. The first time they told me it would.

The C10 front shock can be used in the rear on a coil application.

I recall measuring & found they wouldn't be long enough for my leaf set-up. I was looking through the Monroe catalog @ the front shock lengths when I noticed the 4x4 front shocks were a different p/n w/better dimensions for my app.
