Control arm bushings squeal...
...And squeal and squeal!
Having only 38000 miles on it when we got it, my '88 used to sit for 9 months a year, and I think the lack of use has dried out/ruined both upper control arm bushings. My question is twofold: 1. Is there anyway to shoot grease or WD40 or something up under the bushing to get it lubed up again --or-- 2. Am I going to have to replace the bushings? And if so, what all does that entail? I haven't even looked under the truck yet beyond finding which bushing is squeaking.

Re: Control arm bushings squeal...
Here's something that will likely work, Loosen the control arm cross shaft nuts just enough so the cup washers move slightly. Spray some Fluid Film between the bushing and washer then tighten, Fluid Film is a lubricate that won't evaporate like WD-40 and others. It's safe on rubber and plastics as well, Spraying ball joint and tie-rod boots will help reduce if not eliminate rubber cracking/rot.
I use it on my faded black plastic trim and door/window seals, Makes them look like new for over a month until I'm ready for another wax job. Armor All has nothing on this stuff !

Re: Control arm bushings squeal...
Cam my old 88 GMC developed a squeeeeeeak when turning only. In my case it was the lower ball joints. They were still tight but the grease had dried up. More grease didn't fix it so I replaced them and took care of the problem.

Re: Control arm bushings squeal...
I'd replace them. mine sat for around 9months a year before i got it. it was absolutely awdul sounding down a gravel road. i tried that film stuff i tried greasing and lubing, the only thing that somewhat helped was earmuffs. so i had to replace them. both sides took a little over 4 hours with a full frontend rebuild.
