Rear broken shock mount

Anyone ever experience a broken rear upper shock mount? I was adjusting my rear brakes today and noticed. I will have to get it welded.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

Pretty common problem on these old trucks. I have made a plate and used a couple of big washers to fix it temporarily until I could weld it up.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

It's best to reinforce them when this happens. beat the crack straight, weld the gap then weld on a plate and mount your shocks on it.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

Does it look anything like this lol Im going to drill the end of the crack, and plate it. My truck will be bagged so I wont be using the stock shock location anyways.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

They really should have made the upper rear shock mount a double shear design. Every one of them I have ever seen has been wallowed out or torn up. Just too much pounding for a single mount point stud.

I'm going to fab up a secondary bracket for mine and convert it to a through bolt design.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

Does anyone know a part number for the stud that goes through the frame where the shock bolts to? I ended up having to cut mine since the backside nut was completed corroded to the stud. Hopefully these are still available to purchase.

Re: Rear broken shock mount

Pretty much any auto parts store that sells shocks will have them or can get them.
