Fuel problems,,

Had a question a couple months ago on a 94 V6, 4.3 half ton not running fuel pump when cold. Had some time today to mess with it and found that if I put fire to the gray wire leaving relay it runs pump. Fire going into relay but not energizing the pump. It is a new relay and pump. As long as it above 45-50 degrees it all works fine. Drove it just the other day, no problems. Today its currently 38 and no run. What should be telling the relay to work, and which wire should that be?? Thanks, and sorry so long!

Re: Fuel problems,,

have you checked to make sure you are getting the signal from the wiring harness to power on the relay? In my experience I've taken "brand new" relays out of the box for them only to be bad. get another one since they"re cheap enough.

Re: Fuel problems,,

Ok Barry, was sorta my question to ck to see if I was getting signal. Not sure what to ck. And just for an fyi, I took the old relay apart and plugged it in it cycled the pump, but wouldn't start it. I took and cked for voltage getting across it but couldn't find anything. Took and moved contacts together, pump ran, and it started right up. Did so a couple more times without me moving contacts. Going to print off info that chevytech linked and go thru that. Any help GREATLY apreciated!!

Re: Fuel problems,,

Clear the trouble codes and see if it sets a code 54 when you have not unplugged any wiring.

The power wire to the relay is Orange and comes from a fusible link that gets power from the junction block on the firewall by the relay.

The relay ground wire is black with a white stripe.

1994 has a gray wire to the fuel pump.

The control wire from the computer is Dark Green with a white stripe. It should have power for at least two seconds when you first turn the key to the on position.

Go take a look at this thread too.
