Can I use a 1/2 ton brake booster on a 1 ton?

I have the original booster and m/c assembly from my half ton project, and would like to know if I can use it on my 67 1 ton that I am swapping the rear diff and front suspension from a 87 1 ton.
Or should I just use the hydroboost assembly?

Thanks for any input

Re: Can I use a 1/2 ton brake booster on a 1 ton?

They used vacuum assisted brakes on the big trucks before changing to hydaboost. The big difference in vacuum boosters are the over-all diameter & diaphragm quantity.

So, the 1/2 ton booster/mc assembly will increase the pedal pressure vs non-power brakes but it won't be comparable to a HB set-up. Whether that's good or bad is dependant on several factors (presonal preference being a main one).

If anything, the mc needs to be sized based on the caliper & drum piston volume so it needs to be for a HD 3/4 ton Burb/truck.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Thanks for the input.

I think I might just go and salvage the parts for the hydroboost off the wreck in the backyard. It's good that I haven't hauled it away yet.

I will say that I hate the way they (GM) mounted the front brake calipers on the 87 donor truck. They won't fall off, but what a pain to blow apart!
