Re: 4.3 help

Started out the same way but with a TBI model.... most find that with a 4.3 you're going to burn just about as much gas as you do with a 5.7 but spend alot more trying to get the oomph out of it. Some of the things you can look at is going with vortec heads and a crossover intake manifold back to a carb, this will boost your compression some, then tube exhaust headers and the usual sbc 350 upgrades (spark, cam, etc). Most 350 stuff will bolt on (minus those designed for 8 cylinders vice 6). In the end I just decided to go with the 350 built up since if I was gonna pay for the gas, I was going to get the power out of it and I was tired of always wishing I had that "bit more power" when passing on the highway, towing or hills. Just my 2 cents.

Best of luck,
Ted.

Re: 4.3 help

If you really want a funky V6 start looking for NASCAR heads and blocks there are a lot of that stuff around now. I've heard a rumbling race V6 and they sound killer. But as far as a non race motor there are cams and etc for them.

Re: 4.3 help

I'll echo what was said about the 4.3 taking as much gas as the 5.7. When you really strain a motor, making it work harder than it was designed to, it burns more gas trying to compensate. A 5.7 would be more comfortable & give you more power with similar mpg. If you want more oomph, this might be a good time to do it.

Otherwise -
cam it, upgrade spark & intake, enjoy!
