Made my own door map pockets
Hey all,
I was looking through the catalogs of LMC and Brothers and noticed they want like $80 for a pair of map pockets for our trucks. I said the hell that with that and made my own. They are kind of a b*tch to get the bottom pleats right, but the picture below shows my first one. I am going to come up with a better way to space the bottom pleats evenly for the next one I make. All in all, it cost me about $6.00 to make this and probably about an hour's worth of time. I am going to buy some SEM Buckskin to dye them the correct color, since nobody makes that color of vinyl anymore. Here is the original and my repro. Let me know what you think. . .

Re: Made my own door map pockets
That looks great for what it is, but I have always hated the pleats in the map pockets. Dude with those skilz I would consider making a better version than what GM designed.

Re: Made my own door map pockets
I agree, a flat surface along the front with the bottom expandable kinda like an expandable file folder. Perhaps with a chevy bowtie on it. More than likely would be a better product than LMC

Re: Made my own door map pockets
Thanks guys! I agree a flat faced surface would look better. I guess I need to start thinking about it. If I could find a way to make it work as a flat surface, maybe I could have "Silverado" embroidered on it. . . .

Re: Made my own door map pockets
Maybe, but the stock look is a winner IMO. I keep coming back to look at the pic. You really did an awesome job.

Re: Made my own door map pockets
Don't get me wrong Corts60you did an awesome job of duplicating the factory pocket. You deserve props for that. I just feel a cleaner design would be worth a shot considering your ability.

Re: Made my own door map pockets
I didn't mean to argue that. I was just blown away by your ability to replicate the factory look. I love it. I agree that you could do some really nice custom stuff, depending on the look you're going for. There is nothing wrong with making improvements. And to be able to say that you did it yourself would just be icing on the cake. Be creative and have fun.

Re: Made my own door map pockets
No offence taken here guys. I appreciate all the props and the thing I love about this website is that you get opinions and ideas that you probably wouldn't otherwise get in daily life.
