How much to sandblast a bed?

So I did a search on the forum and could not find any recent posts regarding sandblasting costs. I found a place close by me (think NW Indiana/Chicago area) that would blast my 8' bed for $600. It was just an over the phone ball park but from what i have seen it sounds high. Does anyone know of any other sandblasters in the area? The guy i called is highly recommended and does high quality work for custom car builders in the area. Thanks.

Re: How much to sandblast a bed?

Is that the whole bed, inside and out / Epoxy prime after the fact ? If so, $600 is fair IMO. Also I would lean more toward media blasting, Sand might get too hot and warp it down the sides The longer panels (hoods, etc) can get distorted if the blaster is held too long in one spot, too close, etc .. and it's rough work too man. I'd pay $600 for a blast / prime on a bed. I paid close to that for two front fenders, two rear step fenders, and a hood.

Re: How much to sandblast a bed?

I was quoted $600 to soda blast a 6ft bed, I ended up taking it all down by DA and a ton of 80 grit paper!! If I had the extra cash, It would have save me a bunch time though..

Re: How much to sandblast a bed?

There are a lot of things that contribute to the cost of having something sandblasted and one of them is the skill of the guy doing the work. It may sound a bit high but if he is used to blasting sheet metal either with sand or another media and comes well recommended it may be worth it.

You can help and maybe lower the cost by making sure that it is clean and free from dirt and grease. Take off anything that you either don't want blasted or are not going to use again. If there was an area that you were going to cut out later to put a patch in I think I would cut it out before taking it to the blaster. Why pay for him to blast something that you are going to go home and cut out right after it's blasted?

I haven't checked with the local shop that will blast sheet metal. I've seen the work that they do as they also powdercoat and he had a powdercoated hood on display at a show to show what they could do.

Re: How much to sandblast a bed?

I just had the inside done for the $150. I primed it myself at my body shop.
