vacuum advance

I've been told the vacuum advance should be switched from the stock manifold to ported vacuum. Why should I do this, what will it gain? This is an '85 Blazer Goodwrench 350 with RV cam. Need to remain emissions legal, tailpipe sniff test here.

It will gain you a better HC reading at idle, and worse gas mileage, and a poorer running engine that may have a tendency to heat up if you idle it a lot. Make it so you can switch it back & forth for Mr. Sniffer.

I have to disagree with the above post! I've changed mine from ported vacuum and never had the prob's mentioned above. In fact just the reverse. My 350 runs better over all on full vacuum!
