Got a really big smile about my truck today

I took it in to a shop to have them look at the steering to be sure it was tight. I thought it was but my wife drove it..yeah I know...and said it felt loose. It was fine. After the mechanic took it off the rack he came in and started telling me what great shape the truck was in. He was surprised at the low mileage (136000) and how straight the truck is. I haven't really started restoration so I was really pleased. I left and stopped at the bank and when I got out of the truck I heard a voice behind me say "They don't build them like that anymore". I turned around and it was a guy my age (older) getting out of a Mercedes. We had a talk about how easy the old ones were to work on and how solid they were. Turned out his wife worked at the bank. He asked me if I'd thought about selling it. My answer, of course, was no! I'm really impressed! Two complements in one day..Wow! And on a truck that I haven't really started on.

I get compliments about mine all the time, mainly because it's so loud and rusty, but still moves.

That is a nice looking truck. These trucks are finally old enough they're starting to draw more attention. I get a lot of compliments and an occasional "Wanna sell it?" and that's part of the fun.

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

Well, just as I was thinking everyone liked old trucks, a friend of mine and I were talking about it. He owns a brand new pickup and every car or truck he's owned has been new. Four years and back for another. I told him I was fixing mine up and hoped to wind up with a "brand new 1984 Silverado" after all my work. His comment was...yeah but it'll still be a used car. Geez...some people

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

It's all a matter of personal taste - the only thing any of the new trucks offer me that I would actually care about is a warranty.... I save that for my Wife's vehicles though - I'm just taking the square body that I love & updating the items I want - making it my own & not some off-the-lot that'll end up parking next to one just like it in the lot at Wal-Mart....

Truck looks nice BTW!

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

There are the odd days when it wont start and it feels like its always broken and a new truck with a nice warranty sounds enticing, but then its fixed in ten minutes lol I wouldn't trade my old truck for anything.

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

No Half Track, I got mine from my nephew who got it from the original owner, his grandfather on his mothers side. He had it for a month and couldn't pay for the gas. Thinking back, he may have put it on CL for a few days, but I didn't see it because I was focused on strong-arming him into selling it to me. It's fully loaded.

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

I was at the junkyard one day getting new doors for the '78 and someone approached me, I asked him how he was doing, and he said "Good, I'm here to buy your truck" with a smile on his face, and I told him "Sorry sir, I can't get rid of it, I love it too much" and he basically said I don't blame ya.

Feels good when other people compliment your stuff, and OFFER to buy it.

Re: Got a really big smile about my truck today

I came home one day to find a guy parked in my driveway waiting for me to get home so he could buy my truck. He was a teenager and he'd been saving money and had his eye on my truck for a while. He was a nice kid, very polite and I almost felt bad turning him down, but I wouldn't have sold it for double what he offered.

BTW, clean truck you have there.
