Does anyone know how to read a tape measure?

Because it's obvious I don't.
I recieved my second set of custom fenders yesterday. Again beautiful workmanship, materials and customer service from Fenders-n-More. Unfortunately the bonehead, not so smart, doofus that measured did it wrong AGAIN!
Kill me now please. That is all

I once had a drafting class that was like that. the instructor had so many ways to avoid math that I had to quit. She would rotate drawings then turn them inside out all sorts of weird confusing things. At least to me and I spent 20years programming CNC milling machines before CAM. It was at a community collage! I never saw anyplace that had so many people that didn't understand numbers.

Re: Does anyone know how to read a tape measure?

HA! The sad part is that it's not a math issue. I just forgot to take into account the height of the frame. So the fenders are 8 inches too short and that negitivly affected the radius. In other words, measure twice my not be good enough for me. I have to go to the measure 3 times and have a freind double check my work..
I can laugh about it now, but last night not even my loyal dogs would get near me.
The worst part is going to be calling Wes at fenders n more and saying. Uh...er...um... I need a third set please.

That rendering is sweet!!! Might have to talk to the girlfriend about building her 54 chevy 1.5 flatbed farm truck like that.

I love that rendering also. I love my 57 and man I really like the idea of building a flatdeck lowbed. Can't wait to see the build thread as you progress through this project.

At least you didn't drill a hole in the wrong side of somebody else's $1000 part! Lol I did. lucky no one was around. so I bored the hole and turned a plug on the lathe then faced the part real nice. I bet at some point a .600" ring mysteriously appeared.

Re: Does anyone know how to read a tape measure?

Well can you make them work or modify them to work? Probably the only other option is to sell them to someone else and order another set if they are truly custom one off fenders.

I discovered one important thing when you have several tape measures in the shop is to always use the same one you started with on a project. I've got two that are intended to hook on a nail when you are framing a building and they don't work worth a flip for most measuring jobs on an automotive project.

Re: Does anyone know how to read a tape measure?

I had a similar tape measure malfunction while redoing the trim in our condo - I was cutting toe board molding for the kitchen and kept coming up an inch or two short on the custom ordered 1/4 round that runs about $5/ft. After blowing through about $50 worth of trim, I finally realized I was using two different tapes - one that measured inches, the other that measured in tenths - doh!!! The tenths tape was promptly disposed up....

Re: Does anyone know how to read a tape measure?

HA! "tape measure malfunction" from now on that's what I'm calling it.
It looks like these can be modified a little. I have the first set I can use to add a bit. I will need to use a slightly differnt mounting though.
I've spent the last 3 days putting in wood floors in the house so I haven't had toime for the turck, maybe tomorow.
I did score a pair of iar bags for the rear. I will use them as load levelers when I'm hauling a load.
HAPY NEW YEAR everyone.!!
