Starting over... a question.

So I recently lost my 1990 1/2 ton crew cab short box in a major fire , along with it went my 5.3 harness, motor mounts and everything else. Bad year!
The truck was days away from driving with the small block when the fire hit.

So new year time to start anew!

I just made a deal on a nice rust free 1991 suburban, I plan to lower it a little custom wheels interior and a ls.

So here is the question, the truck currently has a rebuilt 700r4 , I keep seeing a lot of questions about the tv cable, is there a gm 5 speed or 6 speed that would do well behind a healthy ls?
I am not huge fan of automatic transmissions and finding a 406le 2wd up here is not easy.
SO is there a manual option that is some what robust and reasonably affordable.

Would a nv 3500 be heavy enough for this application?

GM never put any LS style bigger than a 4.8 in front of a NV3500 if that says anything. I'd look for a NV4500 or T56.

had an nv4500 behind a cummins in a dodge. it was a good tranny but after it was turned up couldnt keep a clutch in it tranny was fine though.

I'm just worried that the nv 4500 is not exactly a quick shifting box, its more truck than cruiser. I guess I will look for a T 56 or 406le.

How healthy will the ls be? The 700 can be built up to handle it, or you can use it until you can get the tranny you want as long as you don't dog it real hard

345hp to start, it will get at least one turbo if not two down the road.
My biggest concern is setting up the tv cable no one seems to be able to give me a definitive answer as to how to deal with it.

hey i plan on using a 200-4r thats been rebuilt with shift kits im only gonna have a stckish 4.8 or mabey a 5.3 but i dont see why a 200-4r wont hold up i mean gm put them behind the 3.8 turbo grand national plus when i start my build it will save me some cash cause i own it already. and i have a friend who has a 90s model 2500 4x4 with a 454 and 6 inches of lift and it had a 700r so im thinking you will get some life out of the 700r. and from my understanding (i may be wrong) when/if the 700r quits or you decide you dont like anymore they make an electric tranny controler for the 4l60e so you wont have to have the whole computer retuned. and as far as the 4500 i know BD diesel makes a short throw shifter for dodge trucks cause i had one and liked it but not sure if the shifters are diffrent for chevys.

do it gangster, Mcleod and some other companies do bellhousings and flywheel/clutch setups so you can run something like a muncie or tko. Originality counts ya know

My biggest concern is how to deal with the tv cable , I know the 700 will handle the power, if thats an issue a 200 would do. I have never been able to get a clear answer on how to deal with the throttle valve set up for the 700r4 when mated to the 5.3.

Contact Bowtie overdrives, they can tell you how, I havent used one, and the limited experience I have wouldnt help you.

bowtie overdrives has the kits you need they also caution that the tranny needs a longer/heaver spring i think they have that too. like clyde i dont have any experience, except looking at the computer from my arm chair. but i have a prety good mechanical sence.

Thanks guys that is what I was looking for, I have 3 700r4's shame to go looking for something else.
