Front Brake Calipers dragging.

I have jacked up the front of my '79 Chevrolet 1/2 ton SWB, and removed both front wheels. My rotors will not turn by hand. (E-brake off)... Why are my calipers dragging, and how do I fix it? I plan on replacing my pads, do the calipers need replacing as well?

Thank you for feedback. I'm semi stranded without my truck.

i would just replace it all u can do it under 100 bucks .. caliper for my 87 was like 15 bucks

Don't over look the brake hoses, when this happens I like to replace it all. When ever I replace a caliper I replace the hose as well. Look close at the rotors, when the brakes are dragging it heats the rotrs and creates hard spots on the rotors. Good luck, Ron

These trucks are notorious for flexible brake hose restriction. I've had two that had the same symptom, and both caused by the hose. Seen many others with the same condition and cure.

x4 on hoses. but as mentioned its just cheap enought to put new calipers, rotors, bearing, hoses and pads on might as well do it all since your going to have to bleed the brakes anyways when you replace just one hose or one caliper.

I vote for whole new system also. If something is starting to fail, then everything else could be just as old might as well do everything.

The master cyclinder is cheap also, the one on my 76 was like 20$

Thank you to everyone who offered feedback... Problem still exists. Here's what I've done so far.

*New Calipers
*New Hoses
*New Pads
*Bled Brakes
Side note...
- Rotors are in good shape. I sanded them and installed them.
- Bearings were in good shape. Repacked them with grease and installed them.

I still can't turn the rotors by hand, and they are still difficult to turn by hand when tires are installed. The pedal feels as mushy and soft as it did before. What else can I check? Master Cylinder?

unbolt the master cylinder from the booster, ckeck wheel again. Ron

yeah a bad master and or an incorrect lenght push rod will cause this also.

like i said replace the master, in these old trucks crud builds up in them, they are so cheap they are not even worth cleaning out or rebuilding urself.

It is unlikely that both calipers and/or hose would go bad at the same time (although if one was bad I would replace both). A problem with the master cylinder or power booster would affect both sides.

Master cylinder is cheap. Check that and brake boosters are a little more expensive but check that also.
