i was at the local pick-n-pull and found these parts in the trunk of a car...i dont know that much about carbs and intakes so i figured i'd ask if they would fit and if they're worth the money before i brought them home. i have an '86 k10 with a 305...any info is very appreciated.
holley 4 barrel carb - $26
wieland x-celerator intake - $25
headers - $45

carb is an older holley, 650cfm i believe. they made litterly millions of them, theyre extreamly common and a lot of people just give them away since supply far outweighs demand. intake is an older weiand (holley bought weiand a while back) some of te intakes are great, some are just average. chances are yours is just an average intake, nothing special. if the headers are for a gen 1 SBC, theyll fit any gen 1 SBC, but they may not fit in your truck. youd have to try and see. all of this will physically bolt to your 305, if the intake center bolt holes arent angled right, that can be fixed.

the question is SHOULD you put it on your 305. whats on it now?

The money your going to have to invest in the headers by cleaning them up and getting them coated, and the fact they may or may not even fit, makes it not worth it in my opinion. You can get a decent set of long tubes already ceramic coated for right around $200.

cool, guess it was a good thing i asked before i bought them...travis401, everything is currently stock right now, but i'm putting larger tires on it and debating on swapping in a 350 or trying to squeeze some more out of the 305. i like the idea of keeping everything stock, but this will never be much of a show truck

the intake would atleast be an improvement over the stock gm cast one that weighs 100 pounds (not literally). but you cant fit your stock qjet (im assuming you have the qjet) on it without an adapter. the holley carb is a decent carb, but nothing special or "high performance" the headers i wouldnt waste money on. if you have a 700r4, youll need a special bracket to run the holley carb to correct the TV cable geometry. they run about $20. the intake and carb will bolt to the 305 and the 350. the 650 cfm is plenty of carb to run a mild 350. you may just have to play with the jetting to get it running decent on the 305.

any idea where i would get an adapter to keep the q-jet? like i said, i dont really know much about about carbs yet but i assume the holley would probably need a rebuild?

Any parts store should have a square-bore to spread-bore adapter. For $25 that intake is a good deal. That is an old dual plane, low rise intake, I've had a couple and they work very well. Snatch that, the rest is not worth it.

as stated. probably not worth getting the carb and a rebuild kit for it unless you wanna go through the hassle of retuning it to work on the 305. the intake isnt bad though. the adapter is $20 or $25 at the parts store. id get the intake cleaned up good. it looks like its alum so it should clean up pretty easy.

went back and grabbed the intake...turned out to be single plane. i've been searching around for an adapter for the qjet with no luck. any suggestions?

My mistake I think that is a single plane intake, that will not be great for a stock motor. It was still a deal though.

so there would be no way to use it with the stock carb with an adapter? what makes a single plane intake unsuitable for a stock motor?

You could use it, and maybe even see some improvement, but a single plane intake is more for high rpm ranges. The dual plane is more suitable for low rpm to mid-range which makes them much better for street applications and mild motors. If it were me I'd clean that one up and offer it for trade for a dual plane, and end up with a nice intake better suited for your motor, cheap.
