how to wire up a 1995 140Amp alternator on a 69

I already have aninternally regulated alternator wired up and charging but the newer alternator is good and just laying in my "spare parts" pile so a swap would be cool if anyone can help, the alternator came off of a buick roadmaster, LT1 car

Keep an eye on the wiring, the red wire that goes across to the battery, if you use the 140 amp make sure the wire doesnt get really hot.

true, can`t hurt to run a heavier wire.

What do you want to know that wasn't already in that article that VetteVet posted? There is tons of information here about swapping alternators if you poke around. The biggest issue is the regulator mod. The LT1 140A is a really good alt, but it will be configured for a serp and you need a V-belt pulley for your '69. I'd be curious too if there is an easy way to do that.............

A single V belt may not be enough to drive a 140 amp alt. You may need to convert to a dual V belt or Serp setup

Re: how to wire up a 1995 140Amp alternator on a 69

I have the SI series on my 86, running a ribbed pulley. Now should I swap over the pulley and fan or just the pulley? My alternator mounts on the right (passenger) side of the engine.

This thread made me do a little research and I realized that the stock 42 amp alternator will not be enough with the TPI conversion, it was barely enough before!

Changing the pulleys is easy.Just make sure you use the spacer that was with the original pulley.
Also,I just put a 105amp alt on my '85,and still used the v-pulley,with no problems.I used the alt from a '94 Grand Am. I did have to make a top mount/adjuster,but it works.
