Handled fine. I actually sold that truck a little over a year ago, it's in Norway now. I don't know about the Burbs and I never tried hauling any weight with it, but I doubt they'll handle the extra Burb weight well.

Thanks man. I think the secret to that look are the 8" and 10" steelies. They pull the dog dish caps in deeper.

Not sure but the back is really easy to do incrementally. Start with a little and do more until you like it. Hardest part is the first cut because of the lower bolt...

Re: Need some stance pics with jeep springs and coil cut

I was thinking of leaving the bottom coil and bolt to use as a lateral stay for the coils.

Why not just buy drop springs? They are a hundred bucks a pair?

TJ springs wont work. You can put 50lbs in the bed and its on the bumpstops.

Why not just buy [insert item], they are only [$XXX] ...and on it goes.

This thread was not started to debate the merits of one vs. the other. If you would like to have that discussion please feel free to start a thread on it.

Re: Need some stance pics with jeep springs and coil cut

I posted this in another thread but I'll repost it here. I had a thought that maybe a set of Moog cargo coils from a Chevelle wagon or 1977 to 1996 Caprice wagon may work. They have a progressive rate spring wrap. I included the 1977 and up Caprices because they are roughly the same wheelbase as Chevelle wagons (116") although my guess is the Caprices are a little heavier than Chevelles. This would give you some variables to play with and adjust ride height. A spring company online may post the dimensions and weight capacities of these springs for comparison purposes.

As a side note, I had an old set of pickup springs I installed in the back of my Chevelle once to try to lower it. It was a disaster! The truck springs are shorter than the Chevelle springs and it gave very little suspension travel and rode like a truck,

Re: Need some stance pics with jeep springs and coil cut

so for the jeep springs do you use (4) rear spring for all around the truck or just (2) for the rear?

Re: Need some stance pics with jeep springs and coil cut

There are four different versions of the springs that were used from 1997 through 2006. These are the ones that can be used on the C10. Similar rear springs could be found on the Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ. All four versions are the same length wise but vary in rate.
The only way to tell them apart is by the color coded tags that are on the springs from the factory, they read as follows:
103AA (or 3AA) 130lb.
104AA (or 4AA) 140lb.
105AA (or 5AA) 150lb.
106AA (or 6AA) 160lb.
The colors on the tags can vary and the rates are "ball park"

hope this helps

I believe you just use them in the rear. They are not as stout as the rear springs on our trucks already and I doubt they could handle all the weight in the front. Somebody else may contradict me but from what I can tell they won't work up front.

From my experiences in cutting coils, every full coil you cut from a non stacked spring nets between 1.5 and 2 inches of drop. Stacked coils only yeild the difference of the thickness of the coil material.

Seeing as there are different spring rates on the jeeps are y'all using the srings out of the 4cyl or 6cyl jeeps? I assume the 6 but would like to know before I try to locate a set at the local 4x4 shops.

hey rannos, i honestly dont think there is a difference between them, i may be wrong but i had talked with a couple guys about it and it was never mentioned. im picking up my next truck, a '70 swb and i have already picked up a set of jeep springs, mine are actually off a jk. im gonna cut a full coil or 1 1/4 off the front and see how it goes.

Re: Need some stance pics with jeep springs and coil cut

Dont bother with the jeep springs-save for drop blocks or dropped springs.

They lower the truck but're wayyy to soft. I went with a 2" drop block, only complaint was that the U bolts hang WAY low.

until im ready for a full drop im going jeep spring route. the only thing the truck will be hauling is me. i want a good cruiser. and right now i just want to get it lower until money allows. my truck is full drum 6lug. so when i get the money to convert to disc is when ill do the drop spindles/springs, bolt/weld on cnotch and rear drop coils. that will be after the built radically sbc im buying goes in, cuz then have a good enough reason to upgrade the brakes, so that i can slow it down!!
