Re: shock ?

I'm not an expert with suspension but I'd be afraid of bottoming out my stock shocks a lot with a four inch drop. Lets let someone who knows about it chime in though.

Re: shock ?

Depends on how it's lowered. If it's lowered by spindles then the suspension travel hasn't changed as much so new shocks may not be needed. For example, if you have a 3" drop spindle and 1" drop spring, you're probably OK on stock shocks. If you just have 4" drop springs, you're definitely going to need new shocks.

Re: shock ?

Do you have any pics of your front suspension? With a 4in drop I would bet you have drop spindles. If so stock shocks are OK. IF you dont have a pic you can compare your spindles to these. The one on the left is stock, the one on the right is a 2.5 drop spindle.

Re: shock ?

If you still have stock spindles I would recommend getting drop spindles and lowering springs or stock springs and cutting one round off to get the 4 in drop. Going more than 3in with springs only you will run out of alignment bolt and quickly wear out your front tires. Also every time you lift the front of the truck to work on it the springs will fall out of place. If you make these changes you can run stock shocks.

Re: shock ?

i notice that you said you bought your truck already lowered. how are you determining it is a 4" drop, is this something the previous owner told you or have you made some measurements of some sort to determine this. my guess would be he cut a round of coil off the stock springs, and due to the age of the springs, it has lowered the front more than the traditional 2".

Re: shock ?

Looks like a 3-4 in drop to me. If it was mine I would put stock shocks on it, with no worries.

Re: shock ?

unbolt ur shock from the top, compress it all the way while keeping it on the same axis it normally rides at, measure the distance from the mount to the shock. This is the length of ur avaliable travel on the shock.

Now measure the distance from bumpstop to its contact point, now guestimate how much it will compress.

Does ur shock have enough stroke? If not its too long. Now yes some angles and other variables come into play so have to use ur judgement on that.

Now that is not a for certain way, but a very easy way. If ur measurments are real close, they its best to go ahead and get shorter shocks. If u have an inch or two of extra shock travel then ride it.

Or just make the suspension flex enough to see what it will do in real life.

Gotta start somewhere....
Look up the p/n of the shocks you have & see what they're supposed to fit.
