Lowering Block Material?

Last year, I had a previous neighbor make me a set of lowering blocks since he had access to some scrap steel and a machine to make them at his job. They are just 1" blocks, but they are crazy heavy. I don't really know anything about different types of metals, but I'm guessing they are just steel due to the weight.

I know the 2" blocks I have currently aren't even close to this heavy, so I was wondering if it's a bad idea to use these?

The lighter ones are more than likely Aluminum.
Pretty typical as far as blocks go and perfectly fine to use.

Re: Lowering Block Material?

Try sticking a magnet to it if it sticks its steel if not its billet alum or maybe stainless steel.

Re: Lowering Block Material?

I had heavy steel ones before but I have seen others used aluminum before. I would run them if they look like there are no defects. I would think (experts can correct me) that the ubolt will have more stress placed on it than the block will ever see so I would be more concerned about the condition of the ubolts.

Cool! They look fine visually, so I'll toss them on!

Re: Lowering Block Material?

Thanks, oldblue! I have a about 1.25" left of threads with my 2" blocks installed. I'll put them on and see what it looks like, and if I'm not comfortable with it, I'll definitely let you know!

Been making good progress on the blazer lately, so I'm hoping that my rear will be reinstalled this weekend!
