Projectors in 86 model headlights?

I have Xenon bulbs in my euro style headlights. But I would prefer them to be in projectors.

Anybody ever build projectors into these headlights?

Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

I did a retrofit using a volkswagen projector into a 91 suburban $9.99 oreilly headlight... worked out perfectly. You get that baller xenon look, cut off line and you can see real well at night.

Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

the build thread pic's and how to was on fullsizechevy.com... and the picture were on putfile.com... putfile.com is no longer and lost the pictures. they might be on my other computer, but its not hooked up.
heres some pictures of what I did. These were 9.99 at Oreilly, glass lense, METAL back housing... if you have glass it wont work. you cant grind and cut glass, thats why it wont work.

Sealed with aluminum tape and butyle tape... water tight

If someone had access to a SLS or other 3d prototype machinery, I could work up some 3d models so you could have more of a bolt in kind of deal and retain the factory non retarded look by using the flea bay projector things.

Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

He man, thanks!

looks sweet!

What projector from volkswagen did you use?

Is it bi-xenon?

I would prefer a clear glas lens in front of the projector, to get optimal lightpattern from the projector.

I would love to see you other pictures from the build.

Wink Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

These projectors are out of a passat like 2000ish. They were originally halogen projectors, just installed a hid kit and here we are. The lines in the factory kense doesn't seem to effect the output one bit. I've got 1 pair of bi xenon projectors and about 6 other bixenon projectors but none match.. Hopefully so
one on the board has access to protype equipment.. I got tons of ideas but it's super expensive.. Probally be 140 ish just for 1 and then if it's not right

you get great deals from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ and you can find cheap projectors on Ebay.com http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=hid...oejctor&_rdc=1

but still, $100-150 for two projectors,
about $30-40 for the conventional headlight
and $60-100 for the Xenon Bulbs 2ds

that makes each project pretty expensive for trying...

what kinda ideas you got? any drawings?

Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

the hella E-55 is the only other pair I have, and its super nice. If anyone should want to do a conversion and want bi-xenon, I'd recommend the E-55

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/E55-H...Q5fAccessories

isnt a bad deal at all, I just cant remember how you would attach aftermarket D1 or D2 bulbs to it... the E-55's I have are the 1st design that have a simple spring retainer that holds everything in place

thanks for the tip. But they are not fully closed. So you would have a hard time closing it up and pretecting everything from the influence of weather. When we get snow in wintertime, they use a sort of salt for melting it and making the roads clear again. That is a pain in the ass of you dont have a fully closed up projector or headlight.

Re: Projectors in 86 model headlights?

no, you make it into one. the original projectors I started with were open... just made a housing for it, welded some all thread to the sides, bolted it together and used butyle tape to seal it. The aftermarket people need to design some nice looking ones.. none of this euro rice crap.
