Exhuast system need help
ok so I'm new to all of this and I bought my first truck out of sheer necessity. I've fallen in love with this truck, and now I want to restore it rather then sell it. Its a '72 gmc sierra grande no power steering and its got a granny low trans. It looks like its got a duel exhaust (or whats left of) both mufflers are pretty eaten up, and the passanger side one is hanging by wire. Any idea's on a decent exhaust system and how hard it'll be to redo it? I'm new to trucks.

hmm headers from summit racing (many brands to choose from) i got hedman headers for my 72, I had magnaflow mufflers put on, everyone has opinon on muffler brands,flow master, magnas, ravens etc.
i spent hmm 175 i think it was n the headers, and 250 on the pipes 2 1/2 alum coated pipers dropped infront of rear tires, and another $80 for mufflers I heard from headers or manifolds back can be from 100 - 300 bucks. browse the pics page and/or see if memerbs will post exhaust pics for you BTW - welcome to the boards, glad to hear you saved yet another truck!! Welcome to the group from West Michigan!
We have installed the dual exhaust system kit from LMC on our trucks and have had good success with them. The pipes for the small blocks are 2 1/4", galvanized and last a long time. I like the glass paks but other mufflers are available with the kit. The kit sells for around $149 and is pretty complete. The tailpipes exit at the stock locations. The supplied hangers and light duty clamps are not the best and we change them, otherwise installation is pretty easy. Jim |

I did like JimKshortstep4x4 said. I ordered the kit from LMC. I needed to buy two things after the kit arrived on my door step. The exhaust hanger for the other side wasn't there - I was converting from single to dual. I fabbed up a hanger with some of the parts in the kit. If your truck was a factory dual exhaust truck you won't need to do this.
I also had to buy a pair of universal exhaust hangers from NAPA for the tail pipes. Depending on your age you may want the loud mufflers. I went with the quiet ones. The LMC kit is a lot cheaper than a custom job. And it bolts right on.
