When greasing my front end this weekend, I noticed the steering wheel doesn't lock with the ignition locked. This doesn't really bother me, but today, out of the blue, the truck wouldn't come out of park. I was sitting on level, and turning the wheel didn't help. The only thing that worked was to turn the truck off, then turn the key back to "unlock", then start it in neutral.
And ideas?

It is normal for the steering to not lock with the key off. GM took the lock feature out which is one of the reason the trucks are so easily stolen. This may be silly but i am assuming you were pushing on the brake when you were trying to shift from park. The brake switch is used to unlock the shifter solenoid. If you press on the brake and it still wont shift than there is probably a problem with your brake switch.

Thanks for the reply. I never noticed that the wheel didn't lock, I just assumed it did. As far as the switch, I did notice after my post, that I had no break lights, and there was a metal retaining clip on the floor under the pedal. I'm just waiting for daylight to look at it, but I guess it fell from the switch. Thanks again!
