Not going into reverse

I've got a '01 K2500 Burb with the 8.1. I recently got the transfer case rebuilt and also based on the bolts, it looks like the tranny was repaired at some point. I have 106k miles and bought it 3 years ago with 84k.

I have had some issues with the shift column. When I go into 3rd, the starter engages and grinds. The spring that pushes it back when you go into park is bbroken in two.

Could shifter column issues be my issue with reverse? How can I adjust it?

thanks!

Re: Not going into reverse

The starter engaging in manual third sounds like a wiring problem or neutral safty switch issue, They get damaged alot.

If you can acheive Park, Neutral & O/D....But no reverse, Its in the transmission, Most likely a worn Low/Reverse band, But could be......
Band anchors backing out of the case
Apply piston seal
Apply pin too short
