1962 GMC 4X4 Suburban on the road today!

After everthing seemed to break, got the Suburban in good running shape. Went for the longest drive I have ever been in it. Went up Mt. Magazine and down. The power of the GMC 305E with 4spd is great. Smiling all the way. Forgot to take the camera with me, but took pictues of it when I got home. Replaced radiator, water pump, Carb with a 500 holley, HEI ignition, all new brakes, upgraded to dual master cylinder power brake viva Captain Fab (looks and works Great), clutch slave cylinder, rear wheel bearings, seals and rebuilt the T221 transfer case. Got to start on body and interior.
Great start to the New Year!!
Tim

Congrats on the first trip! Do you have any close ups of the wheels? Also what size tires are you running? I have 31x10.5s and I am looking to find original rims with the rings and Chevy caps.
Congrats again!

That is a sweet Suburban! I'm jealous. This gives me good motivation to work on my K10!
Happy wrenching in the new year.

Burbluv,
The wheels are GM ralleys, with an aftermarket trim ring. The tires are only 235-15, this wil have to get bigger and ruffer. I would like to find a set of 15x8s to put GMC hubcaps on.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: 1962 GMC 4X4 Suburban on the road today!

Looks much like my 1961. Same color and pattern of seats, I have all three also. The interior color is the same. Many GMCs have this interior color regardless of exterior color. I rebuilt my T221 back in 1980 along with the engine (305D) and SM420 trans. Mine has 17.5's, so has more of a tall and skinny look. That is one bright t case! I went for black.

I got some of the thrills you did when I drove mine home after being in storage for several years. Everything worked except the brakes!

Anyone have a color code or name for the metallic interior paint?

I am adverse to any bowties on my GMC. Not that I'm anti Chev, I have a 2003 Chev PU. They just kind of dilute the exclusivity of it being a GMC.

Good to see your Burb cruising again. How long has it been since you bought this from Tony?

This is the information I was looking for. The 305E which is what I have and you did the 500 holley. Now I can get the plate and carb. I took my 63GMC out for a drive with my sons. So much fun to drive.
