opinions for tank/compressor setup?

on a front and rear system would it be better to run a 5gal tank and compressor for the front..... and a 5gal tank and compressor for the back?

or just one 5 gal tank and 2 compressors for front and rear?

or two 5 gal tanks 2 comp for front and 1 tank and a comp for rear?

used as a dailey driver but occassional playing round with the switches for fun.

lets see what opinions are out there....any and all opinions welcome

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

In most caes, a 5 to 7 gallon tank would be good, but I would run it up to 200 PSI. One tank for everything and run 2 compressors to fill it. For compressors, I would recommend the VIAIR 444C dual pack.

This is the same setup I am running on my truck. Dual 444C with 5 gallons of air storage. 3/8" air line and valves.

This is actually the setup I am running on my truck.

cool, thanks

kind of what i was thinking most people do and it might just work the best...still open to other opinions on this guys...

cool 84 man...love the c and the bag location...have you had the chance to drive it with the bed on yet? wondering how it rides...might do mine like that

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

Honestly, I've read quite a few debates over the "best" setup for tanks and/or compressors. I can tell you what I've done in the past and hopefully it'll help.

I've had 2 electric compressor setups and one edc (engine driven.) One setup had 2- 5gal tanks with a single Thomas compressor. One had 2- 12gal tanks with 2 Thomas compressors. The last was 2- 12gal tanks with the edc (burned up the Thomas'.)

I would say, it all depends on what speed you want. It's easier to build a setup and "neck" it down slower than it is to speed it up (depending on pressures.) With the 2- 5gal setup, I had a manifold with 3/8" dot line. Running a heavy front end, it would turn on the compressor on the second lift (of just the front.) The 2- 12 gal compressors had 2- 1/2" id lines to each front bag (same car.) The first setup was @175psi. This one was @ 145psi (175psi was too crazy and the fill time was nuts.) The compressors would kick on during the 3rd lift of the front or 2 front 1 rear (if that makes sense.) The edc was used after one compressor cracked the head.

Personally, I'd run a smaller tank, higher psi, with a faster refill rate. An edc is one of the fastest refills I know of (other than an oasis, but same concept.) There's a million ways to skin this cat, but from my experience: good parts, minimal leak/failure points, and simplicity have made all the difference...

(hope my rambling was understandable, lol)

thanks....i think i got it. i know the rear of my truck will lift at half the psi as the front and the air volume on all the bags are the same. thats why i was wondering all these senarios...input from someone who has done it a couple of ways helps!

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

I agree, with smaller tanks and higher PSI.... allows you to build pressure faster. I think all these were good suggestions. You can always add to your system.

Thanks..... I have not driven it with the bed on yet, but will be driveable soon, probably in the next 2 weeks. I just have to finish wiring, shock location, and battery mounting. I wish I would have done a 4-link, and might even change it later. I will keep you posted on how it drives. I have a feeling it will have bad axle wrap with the 383 I have.

I wanted everything under the bed, for a clean look. PPlus my bed is pretty straight and didn't want to cut it up. The center of the axle hits the bed floor, so if I make a small raised section for it, it will sits a hair lower when aired out.

cool, im following your build..... for sure...i think it would be cool if you cut a circular hole and slide in an old school chevy hubcap

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

That would be cool, and different than just a raised section. Once I get the wheels and tires on, I am going to take a look at the stance and see if I need that extra inch. RIght now, I am on the frame in the front, so I can't go any lower there without switching to a aftermarket crossmember.

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

If you don't want ac you could do a engine driven compressor on it.

Re: opinions for tank/compressor setup?

personally i agree with the smaller tank capacity and more compressors route. On my s10 which is obviously a much smaller truck i am running a 5 gallon tank with 1 400 viair compressor...it gets the job done, however if your someone who enjoys hitting switches rather foten i would reccomend a 2 compressor 5 or 8 gallon setup...i have a friend running 2 viar 444's on a 10 gallon setup on a sonoma and he spends alot of time waiting on air to build. In the end it is all personal opinion but if i had to do my c10 i think i would go with a 5 gallon tank under the bed in the spare tire location with 2 strong viair compressors (495's perhaps), 1/2'' fills and 3/8 dumps and rally wheels lol

i agree with all of that...seems thats what most people do. i had 2 viar 380s and a 5 gallon tank and it was great. when i first got the s10 it aired up fine and pretty fast. after checking around i noticed that 1 wasnt coming on due to a blown fuse. i put a fuse in it and i didnt really see a big difference. just a tad of speed getting up to pressure
