HELP!!!! Torsion bar Removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have been working on my truck now for about 3 month now and making great progress

but ran into a stand still on the torsion bars,

I would like to remove them from the control arms but have not had any luck getting them to move at all, I assume they have never been off the truck due to the amout of grease and dirt that was welded on them.
I would like to know if anyone has removed them before, and if so do I need to press them out or should they come out just with brute force

Im hoping someone will be able to help on this becouse I will be sending the parts out to be powdercoated next week and I would like to have it apart by then!!!!!

Mine never did come out. After I pulled the suspension I gave them several good solid whacks with a sledge hammer just to see if I could remove them at all, and to make it easier to transport to the dumps. They never budged so eventually I gave up. Soaking with WD40 didn't help either. Maybe something like PB Blaster would have made a difference. A press may be the only solution.

I have been soaking them in liquid wrench for about the last 2 days and going to try again tonight, I hope I dont have to go to that extreme though, what did you do for the front end?

I unbolted the rear of mine and then used heat, A LOT of penetrating lube, a length of pipe as a drift, and a gigantic hammer. It took a while and made me tired too.

Heat up the lower a arms where the torsion bars go into them with a torch...get them red hot and then hit them with an air hammer. They will slide right out.
