Ok, Now I'm Mad

I was going to go today and go pick up a 73 Chevy about 150 miles away from my house, my dad, my older brother and I. Let me fill you in on some info first, it has been rainging her for the last 2 days straight, all over Illinois, and in some places it is worse. Well, I called the guy with the truck Saturday night to confirm the deal, make sure everything was OK, and this was before it started raining. Everything was ready to go and it was ready for us to go meet the guy and pick it up. Well, we left my house at about 8 a.m. after wrestling the motorcycle while trying to load it up and get it secured, along with the other misc. things we had: spare tire, floor jack, some motorcycle parts, a ramp. Well, we get about halfway there, and I call him to make sure everything is good and hes ready for us. Well it turns out that he got about 8 inches of rain in the last day, and the road to get to the truck is under water, and there is no way we could get to it. To say the least I was really disappointed. We even wasted $50 to rent a towbar for the weekend that we didn't even use, but he said he would pay us back for that. But hopefully next weekend it will be dried out enough so we can get to it and we can get it then.

I've already waited 15 years for a truck, whats another week right?

Lol, thanks guys, nice to know its not just my family. After we had got the bad news we decided to stop at the TA truck stop in Bloomington for breakfast and my dad and brother both said to me: 'Welcome to adulthood in our family, it don't get any better'. I couldn't help but laugh. Even though the day may have been a waste, it was still cool to just cruise around for awhile on the way home.

lol the TA truck stop love them places home of the greasiest bacon and the most toothless waitresses in the country... but yeah a day out with dad and bro getting your first truck ( or getting blown outta the water) is priceless. Im 38 my dad never was into cars or trucks and all but i sure do love doin that kind of stuff with my son who is your age

Looks like you're taking it all in stride - that's good. In a couple of weeks (or whenever it gets dry) you'll get your truck and this will just be a pleasant memory of spending time with your father and brother. Something to think about while you're working on the truck in the coming years.

Unfortunately, once you start playing with these types of toys, surprises will come. Just keep a good attitude and enjoy every minute. Oh and start saving $$$, if you haven't already...

Yeah, our waitress wasn't missing too many teeth, that or she just had fake ones in, haha. But it was definitely fun. And my brother was surprised at how well I was taking it, and how he remembers how anxious he got when he was in the process of getting his first truck. Thanks for the advice and the praise. I've been trying to save money for quite awhile, but it seems a lot easier to spend than save huh? Haha, anyway, I have a little investment I'm working on that should make me some more money pretty quick after I get the truck, so I have some money to buy parts and stuff with.

Seriously though, you could certainly find many more less positive things to spend your money on.

Sorry to hear about your luck, the rain sucks bad, I wanted to do some work to the body of my 68 this weekend, but couldn't due to all the rain.

That TA has good food. Where are you in Illinois? I'm about 20 miles from the TA in Bloomington.

Yeah, I definitely agree, I could be spending my money on much less positive things, but I've grown up past that, and thats a good philosophy, it probably helps keep you from going insane that way huh?

I'm at exit 75 on I-74, Brimfield. About 20 miles west of Peoria, about 55-60 west of Bloomington...My dad is a truck driver so hes been in TAs and any and all other truck stops you can think of in the midwest pretty much, and he can't stand most of the TA food, but it wasn't too bad this morning. Biscuits and gravy was good, bacon was a little cold but okay, but the potatoes sucked. Eggs were cold too. lol

Hey, it's raining everywhere today. It's not picking on you. What you are doing is learning patience, and get a good story to go with it. It will be fun to tell later once you get your truck, and get started on it.

It may not seem like much now, but the time "wasted" with your family will be like gold someday....

Yeah, I realize that, and I'm glad I'm learning patience now cuz I know I'll need it, and lots of it.

I agree there, both of my older siblings are already married(older sister 28; and older brother 26) and I don't get to spend much time with either, and usually when my dad is home he is sleeping or we're just doing odd work around the yard/house.

I bought my truck off my grandfather who lives a couple hours south of here, I took a car dolly to bring it back with me, but the dolly was too small, so it was a long drive for nothing... I then managed to get myself a flatbed trailer and hauled it up on that =) It took two extra weeks to get it up here, and I still haven't gotten to drive it on the road, lol! I am planning on doing my body work first, just gotta talk to my neighbour who does restorations where I can get myself some body patch panels and such then start MiG welding...

Yes, gladly the truck was in a high spot so it wasn't up to the rockers in water thank God. We were going to rent a dolly too but we couldn't find one wide enough, plus we figured it would probably be cheaper to rent a tow bar anyway. I plan on just making it driveable before doing anything, and it shouldn't need very much bodywork. I plan to put new shocks on, new brakes, etc. All that. And we're either gonna have to rebuild the motor in it now, or get a new one, which I already have a lead on.
