Suburban folding passenger seat question
Mine goes back too far, I used to put a block of wood under it. I was looking at it yesterday and didn't see what is supposed to limit its movement toward the rear. Any idea what the stop is?

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
There is a bracket in the floor of my suburban; like the pictures below. I would imagine you could fabricate something similar...

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
I don't think mine has the loop that rides in the bracket. Might have broken off. I know it doesn't have the bracket on the floor. May not have ever had the loop because there is no mark on the floor where it would have contacted. What year is yours?
Thanks for the photos, gives me some idea of how to modify/fabricate. |

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
Mine's a 1961, they may have thought the seat would just ride on air.

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
My '60 has the same set-up. I didn't think there was a different version?

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
I took a look at mine today and the loop that stops the seat is broken off. Must have broken off a long time ago since there is barely a line on the floor where it rode. No bracket and only one small hole where a mounting screw could have been.
Can someone give me a dimension from the bottom of the loop to the tube it is welded to? Thanks |

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
Sorry it took so long, but here are the measurements:
From the bottom of the seat frame to the bottom of the support is just shy of 4.5" (I know it looks like more in the picture). I hope the picture helps provide some reference for fabrication. I didn't know what you were planning on doing for the floor bracket (I really like Apache63's bed strip idea, and I think it would work great), so there are also a couple reference shots for it. It looks to me like you could take a piece of bed strip, fold it over at the right length (I think that would help with the pinched look) and cut it off. If you don't have any bed strip, and you're not in a hurry (it could be a while), I visit family out in the KC area once in a rare while and wouldn't mind donating a piece to the cause. I should have plenty of extra in my parts heap. Otherwise, there is probably a member in the KC area you could beg, borrow, steal from!

Re: Suburban folding passenger seat question
GMCMG- Can't thank you enough for your effort to help another Sub fan out. You have done a great job of giving me the info I need to fix my seat.
When I bought my Sub in 1978 there was no resource for this kind of information, but there was OEM parts available at the dealer. Thanks again, Tim |
