Spark Wire Routing Tube

I am having trouble routing the plug wires to my 327 in my 72 C10 with standard cast iron exhaust manifolds, which requires them to be routed to the plugs from under the manifold. It is difficult keeping them positioned so they dont touch the exhaust and burn.

A mechanic friend of mine says there is a tube that attaches to the tranny to run the passenger side wires thru where they can then be taken under the engine and up. He said the starter wire is also often run thru it too.

I dont remember this tube from the first 72 350 I bought back in 72, and I am pretty sure I didn't have to mess with routing wires thru a tube on it when I replaced them, but that has been 40 years ago and I no longer have a 21 year old memory.

I know I could change the exhaust manifolds out for headers and then route the wires over the top over the valve covers, but would rather not mess with the change to headers.

So, I thought I would see what insight the experts on the forum could provide.

There are little clips that bolt to the bell housing, the oil pan and then one inbetween the motor mount. There should be sheet metal heat shields that bolt onto the exhaust manifold. It is a crazy way to do it but that is the route they took.
I am going to customize my routing, but I have never seen the tube before either.

I've not heard of a tube for plugwire routing. The only tube I've ever seen or heard of is for the starter wires.(heat shield?) Here's how I routed my HEI wires. Used the figure for old style wire routing.
