Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

Like the title says, I just picked this c20 up last week. i got it for the cab and im waiting on the title. it was in such surpisingly good shape im contimplating just keeping it together and dropping in an engine and trans and putting the interior back together and calling it a day. what do you guys think?

1) take the cab, the 14bolt rear, and a few other parts to get my 86 4x4 short box back on the road and part the rest

2)stuff a beefy engine an trans in there and keep it.

im partial to short boxes myself, but this thing is in great shape and just needs an engine/trans and a few other small things.

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

well the thing on keeping it is, ive already got a 91 camaro thats my DD, and my 86 SWB for hauling/bad weather. so i dont really need another truck sitting around that will barely see any street time. and my 86 is a 4x4, im just not a big fan of 2wd trucks.

i should mention that i got the truck for no money out of pocket (other than gas to drive the 2 hours to pick it up and haul it back). i just traded some stereo equipment i had laying around.

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

heres one more pic i might as well add. if you look in the bed you can see the original spare tire the guy put on for me since the one rear tire doesnt hold air. i was using a dolly since the truck was too wide to fit on the 16ft trailer (it has 4ft tall sides covered with 1/2" ply). it blew and shredded before i made it 30 miles. luckily i planned ahead and brought a couple spare tires.

Well, you've got to do what's best for you. I hate seeing straight old trucks get crushed; but I did the same thing to an 83 1/2T LWB about 7 years ago. Stripped and took to the crusher........

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

i wouldnt crush anything. id take every usable part off and find a use for anything left. im all about re purposing. my rolling welder cart was at one point a total gym frame . id rather give away parts then send them to the crusher.

if the option was either the crusher or give away, id choose give away. no sense in letting good genuine GM parts go to waste.

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

of course if i do part it out money will be involved in those parts. anything i cant sell will either get stuck in the corner of the garage, used for something else, or given away.

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

its not at my place, its in my parents back yard. the plan so far is to use my dads giant aframe with motorized winch to lift the cab off so we dont gotta try and fight with it or strain to lift it. they live about 70 miles away from me.

I would stick a good runner 350 and th350 or even a th700r4
do the brakes and exhurst and sell it dirty cheap just enough to make a profit on it

ive actually got more engines than vehicles atm, just no trans to stick in it. so im torn on which way i wanna go. ive got a 305 in my camaro thats just a temp engine. ive got an L31 thats torn down and a 383 in the works for it, then ive got the 350 in my short box and a 388 stroker i gotta put back together for it.

actually i just remembered ive got a 2wd 700r4 in the bed of the 86 that i got in an unknown condition and missing the tailshaft housing(also have the blown 4wd 700r4 that was converted from a 2wd case that was in the 86)....looks like it meday just get a drive train and driven for a while.....

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

heres my two cents... a long bed is better than a short bed any day for hauling.. take your 86 and convert this to a 4wd and put a motor and trans in it... all you need outta the old one is the hump which youd need even if you threw this cab on the 4wd dilema solved and you can paret out whats left of the short bed or make a trailer outta it... its a win win situation

Re: Picked this c20 up last week. (lotsa pics)

it all depends on if the guy comes through with the title. he said he had a clean title in hand before i picked up the truck. but of course when i did pick it up, he couldnt find it. i got a bill of sale and he says hes filing for lost title. so i just gotta wait and see what happens with that. but i like the idea of converting this to a 4wd. my 86 is only a 1/2 ton. and i can always shorten the frame and turn the c20 into a short box .

Thats great, not trying to hate on what other people like, but I always thought trucks should always be 4WD.
