Nice truck.

Here is one of my favorites at a Truck Pull (Short Hood, 8V-71):

Re: any of you big truck guys got a GMC with a 12 in it?

The gasoline v12 was a quick answer to much needed additional power. These motors are NOT two engines put together, but rather one long block with four heads. The block, crank and cam are unique to these motors- the rest of the parts interchange with the 351 V6. GMC engines were designed for maximum torque at low RPM's with incredible longevity. Legend has it that some of these stationary v12's ran every day 24-7 for years without failing.

They sure were. The 478 I used to drive was one heck of an engine. The Factory Dual's with very Low Restrictive Mufflers just added to the power. I remember time or two being overloaded at about 35,000, at a red light, at the top of a hill, thinking "Oh, Boy" and it would just pull like no ones business.

If that truck is all original, it is most likely a 478. If it is actually a 10-Speed Trans (Road Ranger) it would be hard to believe it was original. If it is, it is very rare.

Happens a lot of times. Some people like to call a 5-Speed Trans with a 2-Speed Rear a 10-Speed, but there is a big difference.

Re: any of you big truck guys got a GMC with a 12 in it?

It will do that. They made those trucks from '66 way on up till the late 70's or early 80's in the 7500. The 9500 went from '66 to about '78 when they switched to the Brigadier. Still had the same cab after that but that Front Clip became very different. After the first Brigadier they then went to one with a Low Slope Hood.

Here is a 6V-53:

This truck sounds just about exactly how my '67 7500 sounded like.
