New Wood Steering Wheel Before and After pics + Tilt :)

I picked up a factory tilt for my Blazer that has a 4speed and I finally got a chance to install it. I also went ahead and ordered the wood steering wheel. I've always liked this style with the wood and bowtie emblem. The horn was a bit of a PIA but I got it working. It looks great and next is a factory AM/FM radio I picked up. This is a nice hobby, it sure relieves the stress of the real world

Looks great, any more info on the install...got a tilt in the basement. Didn't want to take anything else apart, before I get it on the road.

Was it a direct install, with no surprises?

Re: New Wood Steering Wheel Before and After pics + Tilt :)

Yes it was a direct install, very easy, I just took off the clamp near the firewall and it pulled right off. I thought it would be a PIA after being in there for 36+ years, but it easily came off. Adapting the new horn contact to work was more work than anything else. I LOVE this steering wheel, not to mention the tilt It came down to 15" from the stock 17" wheel and it looks great.

Re: New Wood Steering Wheel Before and After pics + Tilt :)

Please explain the horn install with the Grant adapter. I am installing the same wheel and I am confused about which parts get replaced/reused and how the turn signals are canceled with the tilt and wood wheel.

Very nice. That's the same setup I'm plan on installing in my '69 K10.

Re: New Wood Steering Wheel Before and After pics + Tilt :)

Yes the horn is a bit complicated. I used the Grant horn kit but you must use parts from the existing horn and from the kit. I probably should have done a faq but I had to finish it that day. I do remember that I did cut the Grant white plastic tube and had to cut their spring. I then used the existing horn contact, its been a few weeks since I did it so this info is probably not much help to you. As for the turn signals, I simply used all of the existing hardware and it works fine. Jtrux, I'll come over so we can finish it!

Looks great. I have that same wheel and I think it looks great on these trucks. Funny how many people will look at my truck with its custom interior and comment on the steering wheel (cheapest upgrade I've made).

Loosing the 2" diameter makes a huge difference IMO, definitely an upgrade.

Looks great!

Hey Richard, what's up. I'm gonna need your help installing the steering wheel on Ol' Yeller if not busy. I even picked me up a tilt column today too. Let me know. Later.

Hey thanks for posting about your steering wheel! I've been on the computer all night trying to figure out which wood to get hahaha and what size. Anyway, thanks to your posted pic I'm going with my original thought, I think you picked a winner.
