Need direction with tires on my 1 ton

So for my '66 GMC long stepside one ton I have picked up a set of used 16" steel Chevy wheels from the early '90's to replace the 17.5" split rims that are on it. They actually look really similar to the split rims. I want to buy some tires (hopefully I can find four used ones that will work) and I know I need a load range D or E tire for how big my truck is.

My question is: is there a science to tire selection? I prefer the look of a smoother tire for this truck vs. a mud or off-road tire. I have BFG on my Jeep but I'm going for more of a street look with this truck. I see a lot of 16" tires for sale that I think would be too small. Anyone have a suggestion for a street looking tire but that will have the correct load range rating?

And those of you around Sacramento, any used tire shops that you like?

Thanks.

You are right. There are a bunch of tire shops around here. That's why I'm hoping someone on this board can recommend one or two so I don't spend too much time or money dealing with shysters.

Yeah, been checking Craigslist but not knowing what all the tires look like I was hoping to hear what other people are running on the big trucks.

If your truck has fairly low gears, you might consider a taller tire in a 85 series. This will drop your cruise rpm's a little.
