Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

What options are there. I want a trutrac but am not seeing them made for a full float 14 bolt. All i can find is lockers. But i mostly drive it on streets and really dont want tires chirping when i am not making them do it. I have a trutrak in my semi float now and love it but have the option to obtain a full float. Just looking at all options. Thanks.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

I'm in a similar situation, I've seen a lot more options for the 9.5 semi-floater than the 10.5 full float. I wonder why that is? I was hoping to find an electric locker for the full float, but I can't find one.

Are you dead-set on a helical gear driven limited slip, or are you open to a clutch style posi? I know that Eaton makes conventional clutch-style positrac for the 14-bolt 10.5.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

I have a modified gov-lock in mine. I probably have about 7000 mi on it. I have rock crawled, hammered on some sand dunes (and broke a front shaft), towed our 25' travel trailer and have not had any problems. I was in the same situation wanting a limited slip, but only found lockers. I have heard they have a bad reputation for blowing up, but my opinion that is much more common with 10 and 12 bolts and too much horsepower and tire. I added a clutch to mine and modified the locking mech. to engage at a slower speed. I think the design was to lock at a 15mph differential in tire speed and not be able to lock after 25mph. My thought was the reason they break so easy is one tire is stopped and one is going 15mph... that's a ton of strain for anything to take. Since I love the sand, I wanted it to stay locked longer. I removed material off of a weight inside to keep it engaged longer. I can jack up one wheel in the rear and turn it by hand for about 3/4 of a turn and it locks. This has worked well for me.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

I am not dead set but would perfer it dearly. I want to have a good quality unit. Not so much air. I have priced that. 1075 is a bit steep for me. Would a clutch posi work as good as a gear type? My bro has a detroit locker and it has a ton of play. I want the best street option i can find. But also would like to be able to off road with it with out worring.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

I'm like 99% sure they are the 14b ff is so fuhriggin popular lol try... arb pretty sure they have one I haven't heard anything bad on air or electric besides the extra lines price etc but otherwise good I may eventually do electric front and back as far as clutch posi not sure I don't research those much and Detroit's work great and well proven I've personally never seen one with play I know two trucks with them and they're great but mud trucks only not like ours which are streetable

Edit

With a quick search I found this
http://completeoffroad.com/i-124187-...0-5-rd114.html
http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrai...&t_pn=ARBRD114 so yes air is available for them

I'd love to have an electric one. I've found air, but not electric.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

for the 14 bolt FF electric locker i searched and found nothing so i guess its not available as far as clutch lockers i've never personally used one because my truck is open front, gm stock 'posi' back now but i haven't been able to take it out, i had a truck with the clutch style locker in the front but never took it out, my brother has one and it does fine with a d44 and chromolys and 5.13s.... i think and 39.5in boggers and a big block lol and he usually just uses the 205 twin stick and rips around using only the front axle until he needs the back

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

Eaton Posi's are great. They are engaged all the time, so you might squeal a tire now and then on the street, but no biggie. I have a Gov-Lok in my 9.5 14, and it does fine on the road, and in a straight line. But it's no fun for playing offroad. Trying to whip a donut in the mud or snow, it unlocks almost immediately. My Duramax truck has a Gov-Lok as well, and it works better, but still disengages sometimes when I want it to stay locked up.

The previous mentioned mods would help, or locking it in full time (I had one like this in a12 bolt long time back.) But the Eaton will be great.

Overstock Diff Parts has a 14T Gov-Lok right now, but for 4.56 and up gears.

Re: Options on limited slip 14 bolt ff

Went back and read this again, with mostly street driving, why not just stick with the semi-float? It's a really strong axle and you already have the limited slip you want? You may also already have the bigger brakes on the semi-float.

Seems like a good opportunity to spend a lot of money and not get a lot of gain.

It sees 99% street right now due to no one to wheel with and no good places to go that i know of. One day it will be a diff story. My brother has a detroit locker i will have to talk to him and see how it drives on street again.
