Cab Sound Deadening Question
Getting ready to get to work on the cab of the truck and got on the subject with dad about sound deadener. I'm going to run duals off the 292 and dump them out the bottom after the cab, will i need to put down some sound deadener to hear the radio and people talking. Advice would help.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I would recommend it based on my experience if you want a good noise level. I drove 100 miles in my '64 with NO sound deadner (or carpet) and I had a noise hangover when I got out. The muffs are right at the back of the cab. My '66 has turbos in roughly the same spot and it is fairly loud too. I can still hear the stereo!! Both trucks have V8's.

What brand would you recommend that is easy to apply and can be purchased on a budget.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I went with peel and seal from Home Depot. Comes in 25 foot rolls of 6" wide. I used about 3 rolls to do from behind the gas tank to the firewall. get a wooden roller from a stereo shop and it will get it nice and smooth. I used an industrial carpet pad over that, it's about 6mm thick, then carpet. My cab is so crazy quiet, it's like a brand new truck.
I also used a strip on the back side of my door panels, and some on the door skin. No rattles, dead quiet. At least until my stereo goes in

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
If you have about $100 to spend, get some FatMat. It's a better product. But my whole floor with carpet was less than $100. I'm happy with it.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
You should take some time to read the information here:
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi This guy has done more research on sound deadening than anyone else I know combined. Also, don't buy the name brand sound deadening materials. It will run you into the poor house. There are materials that are just as good without the name brand that will suit your needs easily, if you do your research. I did a soundproofing project a while ago on my Mercedes 300td. Below is the link. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...-84-300td.html

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
Ive used the peel and seal also. I havent done the whole floor so I cant say how well it works but it did cut down some resonance from under the cab.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I used EZCOOL sound deadner on my 54 ford, they are a Hamb vendor and alot of guys use and have had great results, super fast shipping.....it doesnt have peel and stick so you just use 3m spray adhesive. reasonable price also.the $32.50 40sq ft. roll did the whole bottom floor pan of my car so it would do a truck cab floor plus more no problem.....
if you scroll down on the main page theres also burn test video and also a customer that did a whole bunch of tests before and after on his car heres the link for the customer tests: http://www.shanescitshed.com/cx2500/...nsulation.html heres the link to the site: http://www.lobucrod.com/

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I just put down dynamat extreme. I haven't got it on the road so I cant say what difference it has made. You will always hear "this stuff is better then that and cheaper". Maybe it's the placebo effect I wanted but there is a reason everyone tries to compare to it.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I agree with all above, and do floor and back wall. And make sure all weatherstripping is sealing tight. Lots of sound can come through the smallest of gaps.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
Can you see the soundproofing if its on the back wall? How far up did you go with it? I would prefer it to be hidden. Can you post pictures of the inside of your cab?
Thank you, Kevin C

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I'm planning on doing some sort of hidden sound deadener on my '66. I want it to look stock with the floor painted under the seat. I'm thinking about using Lizzard Skin's Sound Control, and a homemade version of Lizzard Skin's ceramic heat control on the underside of the cab floor while I've got the cab off, and also spray the inside of the firewall and back of the cab panel. Lizzard Skin's Heat Control is sandable and paintable, so you can block it flat and spray it with primer/paint to hide it. You can buy ceramic air beads to mix in with normal paint/primer to make your own spray-on heat insulation and if you used something like PPG DP series you could prime and paint over it.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
Here's a cab I sprayed with Lizzard Skin's Sound Control and Heat Control coatings, two coats each. It's a little over the thickness of two credit cards and has a nice texture. Like I posted before, it's sandable and paintable so it could be hidden under paint. It's also waterproof so it's safe to use it on the bottom of the cab.
It dries black.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
I will definitey consider doing this when i check out the money situation, and i will definitely meake sure that it is sealed up nice and tight. I have yet to do that but if i do it then i would only go to the top of where the tank will go in the cab so its hidden by the seat.

You don't need to cover EVERYTHING, but things like the strip on the backside of the door panel keep the vibrations down. I also wrapped my doors in vinyl, so my doors are solid like a new truck with tight seals. No wind noise, no rattles.

Re: Cab Sound Deadening Question
THEASTRONAUT has some great photos. Thanks John. I am going with the Lizard Skin for the Sound Deadening and the cost is in line with other hushmat type products. There are alternatives with the ceramic coatings that I will look into.
