dash inserts

i'm gonna be puttin a set of Autometer American Muscle gauges in the 66 and was wondering if any of the dash inserts were better than others. don't really care if it's billet or steel. i've only seen a billet one so far that is ball milled and has two 3 3/8 holes for speedo/tach and four 2 1/16 for other gauges.

Re: dash inserts

Good point. I didn't see any for our trucks that made me excited, so I redid my stock ones and I'm happy with it. I thought about making a carbon fiber one like I did on my '69, always thought that would look cool. But I am weird like that.

Molded ABS center dash panel will replace the original unit.
They want $200 for a silver piece of ABS plastic? There was a write up Dave did using the Autozone gauges. He spent like $150 on the whole thing, looked awesome.

I have about $40 in my dash right now. It will be all done for about $80.

Re: dash inserts

Not sure if you’re doing a GMC or a Chevy, but I also made my own panel. I cut out the steel back panel and my son milled the aluminum insert. The finished product is supposed to somewhat simulate the original early GMC instrument cluster with a little more style. Other than the cost of the gauges the panel was free:
