Tie Rod ends with no zerks??
I bought new Moog inner tie rod ends for the '63...part ES323L and they have no zerk fitting and no hole drilled and tapped to install one. The dust boots feel emtpy too, not like they are preloaded with grease. This seems strange, the outer rod ends had zerks, and every other suspension and steering part had them. Heck, Moogs picture of that part used by online sales houses shows it to include a zerk. Anyone else run into this??
I sent a message to Moog tech...we will see if they respond.

Re: Tie Rod ends with no zerks??
The inner tie rods are ususally drilled and tapped on the end of the tie rod.
The outer tie rods are drilled on the top side, opposite of the tapered shaft. I've never seen any,... that didn't have a zerk.

Re: Tie Rod ends with no zerks??
me either lolife99, never seen them
Here's pictures of what I'm talking about. There's a hole in the forging end, not the steel cap, but its not tapped, and it's blocked by the pressed in cap assembly, so it doesn't penetrate the joint. It does not feel like there is any grease in the boots, they feel empty, which is what worries me. MOOG has not answered my email. So much for buying the best high dollar parts eh? My best guess is this is supposed to be a sealed no maintenance rod end, and maybe they are using up a bunch of old forgings that have the hole drilled, but not tapped for a zerk. -Heater

Well, speak of the devil. MOOG just called, and as I thought, they have upgraded this part to a no-service sealed unit using some old casting.
