CAPN'FAB Break Setup - ??

Hey guys, looking for OWNERS of said kit, not speculation or digs. I have read/followed his for sale thread and even chimed in a time or two. My dilemma like many is to forgo the parking brake or not. I already have wilwoods on the front and would love to pop some on the back to match. However I'm really concerned about not having a parking brake.

Not because I have or will ever use it. The ONLY time I have used one is on my Wrangler when having to stop on a limestone face that is way vertical while the guy in front of me clears the obstacle. On the street, never.

What concerns me is A. Liability in a wreck, B. passing inspection. I would REALLY love to just drop some D52s in there and be done. What have you other guys thought when you bolted up the captnfab kit on sans break kit?

(P.S. I know you an get elderado calipers with integrated Pbrake, not interested. It's pretty much wilwoods or bust at this point).

I got rid of my emergency brakes since 08 and just a few months ago I switch to wilwood all the way around and no emergency brakes again I live in flat florida so there is zero need for them for me. If I lived in a mountain I would have them.

Two things, 1. I just realized I wrote Break and not Brake...
2. I'm in Texas, so barely a hill here as well, and I'm going to be rolling an automatic.

I understand your safety concerns..... however having bought the kit and looking it over it is over kill and better than any manufactured kit on the market that I have seen..... I decided not to run an e brake due to the fact 99 % of the time it is not needed and my truck will not be driven everyday

Therein lies my biggest concern.

X2. Exactly why I went with the Captain Fab brackets for LT1 F-Body calipers.

Tmwoodall, How do you plan to get your truck inspected in the state of TX with no e-brake?

Wishful thinking I suppose. I know there are other calipers out there, just was wanting to get 4 wheel Wilwood action.

Re: CAPN'FAB Break Setup - ??

We all know you can find an inspection station that will "Look the other way" or you can get antique tags. The older I get the more of a hassle both those options sound like to me. I want to drive my truck and not worry about if it is or is not going to pass inspection. You are the only one who can make that decision for yourself. It would be nice if someone would figure out an easy bolt on way to make the shoe style e-brake work with the hat style rotors.

Have you looked at the LT1 calipers? It is a nice setup and solves the e-brake problem. Much nicer than the Caddy calipers IMO.

Re: CAPN'FAB Break Setup - ??

seems to me you'd want it - then you can "choose" to not use it. Most states require it. Nothing more annoying than sweating a safety inspection (or smog inspection, or, of course, standing in line at DMV...)

Not sure how this particular kit works - but on SOME setups, the emergency brake activates the auto-adjustment feature of the rear drums. Never using it will result in you wondering why you only need to replace your rear brakes about every 3rd brake job... I know that was the case on some 60's GM rear drum brakes for cars - but honestly can't say for certain it was the same for trucks. Just a thought, not 100% certain applies in this discussion though.
