Wooohooo found a truck

Hey guys i got a truck, my dad found one down in summerland...got it off the original owner for 600 bucks. its a 71 gmc 3/4 camper special. has a 350 on propane. the old guy swapped over but still has the carb too so we might switch back...depends on what our mechanic thinks..do you guys think it matters switching back to a high miler? it runs good but should we bother? i dont know much about this truck yet but i do know its green with a white top, and the inside is all green...the outside has all the trim too and it sounds like its in decent shape...ill try and get some pics this week...i think we are going to put a different door on it on the drivers side b/c the one we got is pretty rusty...gunan be a fun truck to rat around in though till the 67 is on the road next spring! woohoo im stoked

if propane is not hard to come by then I suggest you leave the way it is. Especially if this only gonna be a daily driver and not a project truck.

sweet, I want to see some pics...and I second the idea of leaving it propane if you can get it...its cheaper than gas and has many other advantages too.

Propane burns super clean. (I don't want to sound like Hank Hill here) Engines usually last a long time because of this. My dad had propane powered vehicles when I was a kid. The oil in them always looked like new. I think he put over 300k miles on a 302 Ford. The engine in this propane powered truck might be in pretty nice shape. If the propane conversion is in good shape it has some value as well.

On many conversions, yu can run either or on the fuel. That would be the best of both worlds.
Better check the price of propane though, From what I understand, it is about twice what gasoline is right now.
But it does burn very clean and your oil will stay clean practicly forever.
Also, if the seller has papers on the conversion, the feds will pay you a certian amount for converting to an alternative fuel. (contact a member by the name of ProTrucks for info on this)

another advantage of propane, although not applicable here, is that you can use it at extreme angles (i.e. offroading) where a normal carb would stumble.

also, the alternative fuel thing may not work since you are Canadian, but they might have something like that in effect.

hey cool Derek, I heard you lose a little power with propane, but I'd leave it the way it is till you get use to the truck, man I remember when propane conversion were big in the early 90's propane was like 16 cents a litre, my buddy got it on sale once for 6 cents a litre cost like 8 bucks to fill up, hey I found that canso, parked out side Rileys pub, I left him a note asking if he wants to sell it, he probably came out drunk and through it away, looked like the car was full of hockey equipment, looks like the guys beating on it pretty good, when you getting your new wheels on the road
