2001 suburban not starting

It has been hard to start it for awhile. It would basically need to be cranked over twice to start. Now, It wont start at all. Im thinking its the fuel pump that took a crap because at a turn of the key the pump is not turning on. I checked fuel pump fuse which is suppose to be ecm b according to research. I also checked all other fuses and they all looking good. Help please.

Re: 2001 suburban not starting

I had a similar problem on mine, which has '99 Suburban running gear and it turned out to be either the throttle position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor. Cant remember which one it was, but I replaced both. But, Cheap and easy fix on both. No special tools, 30 minutes tops.

Re: 2001 suburban not starting

mine wont even turn on at all. You cant even hear the pump turning on when you turn the key.

Ive done some searching and found quite a few brands but not sure which to get thats not gonna hurt the pocket too much but yet be good enough to get truck back on the road.

Some of the fuel pump brands I found:

delphi - oem
spectra premium
carter
airtex

Rockauto has about the best prices and listen to truckdude! The airtex seems to be a 13 month pump, just long enough to get out of warranty.

Re: 2001 suburban not starting

Just did my wifes about a month ago it was a PITA. Definately get a Delphi, the failure rate on that other crap is 50%. You dont want to do this twice! Just to save 100$ on the fuel pump.
When you put the code reader on it and the code is something like "failure on all cylinders its probly the pump. Does not have its own code IIRC.
You can whack it with a mallot or take the cap off and see if will run on siphon if you dont have a reader. Or get some starting fluid and hit it with some ether in the intake.
Youll need some help if its got a bunch of gas in it or get a cheap elec. Pump and some hose and pump it out.
Be careful dropping it there are a lot of disconnects and they are hard to get to and easy to break.
