Power Brakes and Original Drums?
Hello Everyone,
Anyone know if you can add power brakes to a 67 with a I6 and a 3 on the tree tranny? Would like to do something that I can handle (newbie). Any pics of your setups would be appreciated. Also if anyone has suggestions on how to best do this I would also appreciate it. Thanks David |

Really easy. Most of the half or 3/4 ton boosters should work. Just make sure that the push rod from the booster to the master cylinder is the correct length. You can make the 73-87 boosters work pretty easy too but you will have to do a small amount of modification to it to make it work. If you happen come out this way I'll give you a 73-87 that's already modified. I have some 67-72 models as well but the price wouldn't be quite as good LOL. Scott's Super Trucks in Penhold probably has used stuff around or will be able to hook you up with somebody that does.

I'm getting ready to do this swap myself. Already have a new booster, just trying to find the time to do it. Ditto on the booster push rod to master cylinder length. My booster has really short push rod, and my master cylinder uses a longer push rod. I'm gonna have to create a filler/extension to compensate for the deep hole in the master cylinder and the short push rod on the booster. I have read that you don't have to disconnect any of the lines to the master cylinder to install the booster, just unbolt MC from firewall carefully push it forward, bolt on booster, then attach MC to booster. That is correct, just unbolt the master with the lines intact and CAREFULLY pull it forward. Also you may need the linkage rod that goes to the brake pedal unless yours is adjustable.

I blew apart a stock drum without power, going down the highway. Make sure everything else is in good working order. I am running disc now.

Just so you know,this is a snowball job.The booster works fine but there isn't room for a stockk air filter assembly.You will either need a factory offset one or aftermarket.I suggest the aftermarket to start with so you can drive it while you find and offset one if you want a stock set-up.There should be a port(plugged) under the carb that will work for vac.I got the fitting at the LPS.If you change the booster rod and need to unbolt the rod end from the pedal,you will either have to drop the column or remove the spring(before mounting the booster) so the pedal will swing down to acess that bolt.(It's a shoulder bolt).

Here-I took this today:
Not a very good close-up: There is a-dimple-(for lack of a better word) on the bottom of the air cleaner. It clears by a good quarter inch.
