Steel wheel question

I,ve got a 65 c10 with 6 bolt rear axles and 6 bolt front disc brake front rotors The question is ; i found some steel rims from a 1990 4x4 with 108 mm center hole which bigger than my rear axle center hub (90mm) and bigger than the rotor center hub (78mm) Any problem running a noncentric wheel .
I,m going to run a 10 1/4" snap over dog dish cap so the gap won't be visable
thanks

Re: Steel wheel question

I think the concept of hub-centric or lug-centric is a relatively new technology. To the best of my knowledge everything was lug-centric until some time in the 80’s or 90’s. I’ve run many after market aluminum and factory steel wheels over the years and all were lug-centric. Some of these wheels (like steel Buick wheels) have center holes almost ½” larger than the either the front or rear hub diameter, and I never experienced wobble or vibration issues.

In theory, it would seem hub-centric wheels would be even closer on tolerance since they are designed to provide a precise fit to both the hub as well as the lugs. If the rim offset creates no interference issues I would think they wouId work fine. This assumes the taper of the lug seats in the wheels is the same as that of the originals. This was a problem in the 50's swapping some Ford and Mopar wheels. Both shared a 4 1/2 bolt pattern, but using one brand wheel on the other brand car could result in the lugs coming loose if the wrong lug nuts were used because the angles weren't compatible.

And welcome to the forum!

Re: Steel wheel question

Thanks for the reply
the rims are from a 1990 full size blazer 6 or 7 inches wide depending how you measure. They have 7/16" lug holes and very little offset
Just looking to clear the calipers as the stock rims won't
Some red paint and wide whites and i should be good to go

Before pic with stock wheels and some bias ply www's

What's your question?

Late model wheels have a much different offset (google wheel offset) which may make them impractical for old trucks.

Re: Steel wheel question

Just wondered if it was ok to center the rim with the studs only as the rim center is bigger than the axle or rotor center
Offset is fine

Re: Steel wheel question

It sounds like you have the same style wheels I had on my truck back in the early 90’s. These were nearly new disc brake wheels off taken off a late model GM vehicle, 15x6 front and 15x8 rear. The photo isn’t clear enough to shown the center hole fit, but they worked fine for a long time and many miles. You have a very cool truck by the way:

Re: Steel wheel question

Thanks for the feed back. Picked up the rims today , they have 90mm centers and fit perfect.
They are only 6" wide but that will work well with www's and my planned drop

My other ride has no fenders, gets really bad mileage and is always going sideways
