Gooseneck help or ideas please! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

HI all,

I am looking into putting a gooseneck hitch into a 1972 Chevy C50, but the only problem I can see is that, the hitch needs to be installed in front of the axle. If I install the hitch in front of the axle, then I cant hook up the trailer, because I wouldnt have enough clearance from the rear of the bed to the trailer. I have looked at adaptors and extenders but neither seem very safe to me. Would it be ok to install the hitch right where the back part of the spring mounts (closest to end of truck) for the rear axle? I only ask that because if I was to do that, then the trailer would fit and have clearance. What do you all think??

The c50 trucks came with lots of different wheelbase options. Are you saying tha there is too much frame/bed sticking out behind the axle? Do you have some pictures?
