Ol' Grandad
Some pics of my 71.
My grandfather bought this truck new in 1971. He passed away in 1989, and it has been in the family since. I took ownership of it from my uncle in 2001 and have been slowly working on it. Here she is now and is ready to go into the next stage. Picked up an '81 to use for parts. This truck has a hot little 383, sm465, 14 bolt/D44 with 4.56 gears. Turns the 35 inch BFGs just fine. Re: Ol' Grandad
Thanks!! I'm going to start moving parts from the pickup in the last photo over to the blazer. The small block in the blazer is mighty tired and I can't wait to drop the stroker motor in. Axles and lift are next along with some new wheels and tires. Forgot to mention the 14 bolt on the truck already has disc brakes.
Not sure about the tranny. The blazer has a TH350 right now, but the 4 speed sure is fun to drive. Plus it has the low granny gear which is pretty cool. What do you all think about a switch from auto to manual? |

Re: Ol' Grandad
I'm sticking with my 4 speed. Swapping out my dana20 t-case for a np205 though.

Re: Ol' Grandad
Nice! Does it have any lift on it now? I want to put 35's on mine when it's done but not sure how much lift to go with. Yours is well proportioned.

Re: Ol' Grandad
It is lifted about 2 inches. I put "add a leafs" in the front and the rear. It rides like a tank right now. The 33s are being replaced with 35s once the 4inch alcans get here. I'm hoping for an improved ride for sure.

Re: Ol' Grandad
Ok...those are 33's on the Blazer and 35's on the truck. I misread the first post and thought the Blazer was on 35's. I am thinking 4" lift on mine with 35's.

Re: Ol' Grandad
Thats a nice blazer. There's one up here in Flag that looks just like that...sitting outside of a shop on route 66.

Re: Ol' Grandad
Kind of bummed. We have to drop the tranny again. We put the wrong flex plate on the back of the stroker motor. It's vibrating pretty bad. Got a 400 flex plate coming to the shop on Monday. Should be fun.

Re: Ol' Grandad
It's not my shop. My step dad owns the shop. He and my brother run the place. They let me work on my junk there, so that's nice. My brother built the exhaust and it sounds amazing. I'll get some pics this weekend.

Good question! I'm traveling for work all next week so this weekend is out. Family time, ya know. Maybe the week after that.

Re: Ol' Grandad
Had it on the road yesterday and it left me stranded. Had to tow it back to the shop. Had a short inthe distributor wiring and a dead starter. Some luck, huh?

Re: Ol' Grandad
Well...she's on the road. Still doing some tinkering, but she drives. I've been pretty bad about loading pics, but that's part of my new year's resolution. Ha ha.
Just ordered 4" lift springs from ORD. I was going to go Alcan, but with the sale going on right now, I just couldn't resist. More later... |
