Scored today at Pick n Pull??

Ok I think I may have scored today at Pick n Pull. I pulled these very greasy power steering brakcets off of a 292 straight six. I believe that they are for the smaller 250 because the alternator was rigged with a different top bracket cause it would not reach the bottom of the power steering bracket. Can anyone confirm this by the pictures?

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

Re: Scored today at Pick n Pull??

I can't be sure but they do look like my 250 brackets. There are some spacers not pictured,I hope you got those. There are some differences in the bracket pictured top left in the first picture, offset differs on some.I also didn't see the pulleys.Go get them. It's a major PIA to mix/match a set.

Re: Scored today at Pick n Pull??

PanelD is right they do look like the "short" block style....might as well get the pulleys too, after all they most likely did work on the 292. Compare with my brackets...these came off of a 79 Nova non integrated head.

Was there anything else on the 292 (exhaust manifold, auto)? As far as chrome valve cover....I couldn't say GM did that....but it is a good score! I like those valve covers....I just picked one up myself.

Yes the truck was fresh and complete, will be going back on Wednesday to get all the soft ray glass, if it is still there.

What you see is what I got. Do you have any pics of what else I may need to get?

Get the water pump pulleys.....Name: I6%20power%20steering%20008.jpg

I pulled the timing cover because the timing tab was on the opposite side and some say to maybe get the pump that way you have a core to match up if its a different design also. The rule of thumb........get everything that is associated or otherwise connected to the system. The system I pulled from had a/c, but that was already gone.....3 pulley system. Also get the pump....it has another pulley.

Re: Scored today at Pick n Pull??

I dont remember any loose spacers on mine either...all spacers were attached to the "bpdy" bracket (the big one).

Re: Scored today at Pick n Pull??

I don't have pics of the spacers. They are just short pieces of heavy wall tube that fit between the pump and bracket pieces. They fit over the bolts/studs that mount the pump to the bracket. Top pic in post #13 shows the offset bent into the bracket.Depending on the pump pulley this can create an alignment problem. If the pump is there, get it also,You may not use it but might need the pulley.
