Header question

First off thanks for any input....Getting close to my final asmbly on this and need to have the exhaust ran, truck runs sweet, not happy with the wire clearance on the hookers I'm running, they sound good as I had some mixed reactions as I drove it open around the block and tested my posi. any suggestions on other headers I could try to give more clearance on the plug wires, Ive looked at the block huggers etc I'm using the boots on both sides but would rather not have those if possible. Heads are 98 vortec, I have the tric flow adapters to run the perimeter style valve covers, Thanks again for any suggestions, now if I could figure how to load a video I'd share that as well..

Re: Header question

The only other headers that I am familar with for small blocks in these trucks are the Hedmann 69260's and the Hooker 2453's. But I'm not sure either will give better plug wire clearance. I typically don't have problems with headers and plug wires. As long as they aren't touching the headers, and you have good quality plug wires (I see you do), I wouldn't think you would have an issue. If you do have a touching issue, maybe a straight plug boot would help? The one set of headers I used to run, I used wires with 6-90* boots and 2 straight boots.

Re: Header question

I went with those Hedmans and didn't have any problems, except the 2nd from rear on the drivers side (#5). I had all 90 degree boots except that one which I put a straight boot on. That plug is a BEAR to change!!!!

I also had to trim the frame just a tad on the left rear.

Re: Header question

Routing your wires below your headers would solve the problem and cost a lot less than new exhaust.

Re: Header question

I have the same problem with my hookers. I have half of them with 90's and the other half with straight boot and they all have the heat covers. Are those the powder coated headrers? If so they are the same as mine and thay get really hot. I would recommend the ceramic ones if you are going to get another pair.

Re: Header question

Thanks for the info, not sure of the part number I picked these up from a friend, I did try going under but wires lay on pipe and yes the powder coating seems to make em hotter I did the high heat treatment, I'm gonna try some ceramic headman, will post an update once installed

Thanks they are aluminum, ordered from Summit, I had the centerbolt style originally, switched to the perimeter style for more options on wire looms, they look much better being taller and having more of an arch vs flat style the centerbolt type have
