my truck might have been a customer order, it was originally owned by a piano/music store in great falls.

This MSA-1 website indicates the DD stands for 'Delivery Date'. The dealer would stamp (in) the date the vehicle was sold to the customer.

My truck has the DD as well and a nice long blank spot where someone could stamp in additional information.

I would be surprised if the DD is found to pertain strictly to our trucks. There are other references to this concerning Chevelles (http://www.chevellestuff.com/1966/vin.htm) and Impalas (http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...ble-with-a-vin). The Chevelle site shows a DD tag with a date stamp.

Not sure what year they started using this, though. Tony, do you see any correlation between your newer (closer to '66) trucks being more apt to have the DD stamp than your earlier trucks? Just a thought.

It will be interesting to see if anyone's tag has been dated in this manner or if earlier trucks do not have it.

If DD is delivery date, I can assure you that if I saw some half-wit minimum-wage dealership summer intern approaching my brand-new 1966 Chevy pickup truck with a ball-peen hammer and a set of numeric punches there would certainly be some punching going on.

The only date I`ve ever found on my `64 with the DD is the date stamp on the back of my dash pod, faint but legible, april 64, so guessing that it is usually 3 months for parts to get to assembly lines would put my build date about some where in the neighborhood of July.

the crew cab had DD on the serial plate and that would have been an ordered truck, so it will stand for either delivery date or date of delivery

These letters do stand for double duty,makes for heavier suspension,option could be ordered on 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks also,not just 1 ton and up.

Check out the first link of Swerve-Driver. It tells in the MSA-1 website that it is delivery date. It was very rarely used section of the vin tag.

This should answer all the DD questions. It was never used as a dealer stamping pad. That was reserved for the warranty booklet protecto plate! This was done by GM on the day it was assembled and the new VIN plate stamped out.

This is a VIN off a 66 Chevy C10 US Government short fleet. The DD (delivery date) was factory stamped as 04 6 meaning April 1966. I would assume this was the earliest use of this prod month info since GM later went to the door or jamb label decal to include the VIN and production delivery month info. This VIN pictured is also unique as it includes the US Gov contract # to GM and it is C 66 and contract #177.
