Re: Modified Brake Pedal for A/T
The pedal is a bit of a pain to take out. To make it a bit easier, I took out the entire instrument panel. You will also need to take the steering column loose (at the dash mount) in order to get the pedal out.
First I would remove the shoulder bolt that ties the brake pedal into the master cylinder rod. Then remove the brake return spring by using a pry bar or long flat head screwdriver and pry it out of the forward hole (not the brake pedal arm side). Then there is a 5/16" bolt and nut on the RH side that you take out and that lets the brake shaft slide out to the right. The shaft is usually pretty corroded on the left side and takes a while (and a lot of persuasion) to get it all the way out. Be careful when taking it out because there are two plastic inserts on each side of the brake pedal shaft that can be damaged pretty easy during disassembly (but they are reproduced http://www.classicparts.com/1960-72-...ctinfo/71-745/). I hope that helps. Last edited by 29od1; 01-27-2012 at 08:30 AM. |

Re: Modified Brake Pedal for A/T
Took the Blazer for a ride and the new pedal is awesome! Pretty good mod to do if you have a grinder and welder.

Re: Modified Brake Pedal for A/T
Sounds great. Would be a great mod too if you do any offroading. I find myself driving with 2 feet when we are going through anything that requires some finess, and the current brake pedal practically has my feet on top of each other. A real pain in that situation.
As soon as I get some time set aside, I'll be doing the same thing. |

Wow...I didn't think it was worth the effort from the 1st pics, but it really does look much better installed! Great job!
