Re: 1960 mirror holes
If you take off the inner door panel, you should be able to reach inside and feel the support plate for the mirrors. I used a spring punch once I located the plate and then drilled from the outside. You will find a support brace on the passenger side also.

Re: 1960 mirror holes
See if this helps. This is from the passenger side. Driver side was in sun and pics were bad.

Re: 1960 mirror holes
Welcome to the forum. Posts #7 & 14 on the following thread should help you out. Also note 1960-63 mirror brackets are generally parallel to the body line. 64-66 are usually at an uphill angle as shown in the following photos:

Re: 1960 mirror holes
The mirror mounting holes in my drivers side door were plugged also. I sanded the surface down to bare metal which exposed the circular break lines of the three plugs. I drilled the plugs out and chased the threads in the captive nuts. I then made a template from some thin cardboard and used the reverse image on the passenger side door to locate where to drill the holes.

Re: 1960 mirror holes
Cool, glad you were able to complete it. I was going to suggest buying the gasket or tracing the bottom of the mirror for a template.

Re: 1960 mirror holes
On another project car I had, I had the same problem! What I did was take a large piece of paper and trace the pattern of the mounting flange on the mirror (outline only) ...then I cut that out. I then went to another car like mine, positioned the paper so the cut-out outline was around the mirror on the car. Then with a pencil I marked on the paper the edges of the door. Obviously the paper was large enough to do at least 50% of the door. I then put the paper back on my car, taping it in place, then put the mirror in the cut-out hole ...again with the pencil, I marked where the holes would be. Worked like a charm for me, I think I was right on in one hole and maybe 1/16" off in the others. ...Good Luck!
