Hooker AreoChambers sound awesome IMO. Too loud for me on a DD though.

Re: old school mufflers/sound on a 03 4.8l lr4?
I had a flowmaster 40 series on my 2000 Silverado. It wanst rally too loud, but the drone from 55 to 80mph was horrible. My buddy has an 06? Cadillac that has the Areochambers, sounds GREAT, but drones at 65+. Maybe I'm getting old...26

Check out spintech they are pretty cool I had one on a 2000 classic body 3/4 ton with 5.7l. I have a big magnaflow dual 3in and single 3.5 out on an 05 6.0l It sounds killer and doesnt drone at any speed or rpm. A buddy has aero and it sounds good. Tail pipe has lots to do with sound, I changed the length and exit a few times to get what I wanted.

had a 2002 silverado 4.8 with a moroso spiarl flow dumped at the rear at first and it sounded ok. Then put a 3" tailpipe on it and it had a real deep mellow tone to it.
Then switched to single chamber ebay muffs (like flomaster 10 series) it sounded NASTY. 2.5 true duals, tail pipes tucked up in the bed corners. no drone at all. |

Maybe you might like glasspacks? Seems like people don't run them on newer trucks. I like Flowtech Purple Hornies, they have a nice sound and the louvered core is not as restrictive as other glasspacks. Idle and cruise are nice with no drone, but they get pretty loud at WOT which is nice. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-50225FLT/ You could get a 3" to dual 2.25 and run a pair. Never ran them like this or on an LS motor but it sure would be different.

Re: old school mufflers/sound on a 03 4.8l lr4?
I have an '02, with a 4.8 with a 14" body magnaflow(single in/out), & stock tailpipe. For me, its a nice sound on my DD....nice low rumble, & no drone on the hyway.... It will drone a bit in the 75-80 mph range, but I rarely run the old truck over 70-72 mph . Its pretty quiet @ 65. Not probably the old school sound you are looking for, but it works nice? crazyL

Re: old school mufflers/sound on a 03 4.8l lr4?
As far as milege/perfomance, I am new to this generation truck....old school tells me that a true dual on that truck.....I would cut the pipes to about 2 1/4 after the cats, to the muffs on the small v8. You can run 2 muffs, or opt for dual in /out, & might go for 2 1/2" out(for the sound). If I were still in the muff shop, I would try it, & let you know how it worked....tell me, & I will try itcrazyL
